Thatsa Spicy Meatball!

Some tasty pork meatballs baked in a tomato and olive reduction and dusted with some feta cheese, from Luz in Fort Greene.  Beware of the skewer though.  If Larry David has taught us anything it’s that these things are dangerous!

Above are some manchego-goat cheese empanadas with spinach and ropa vieja baked pastry dough.  Look at that beautiful golden-brown sheen of deliciousness!

The Chopped Sandwich

In the neighborhood of Clinton Hill in Brooklyn, there is a fantastic little deli called “Farmer in the Deli” (357 Myrtle Ave Brooklyn, NY 11205). At said deli, they create unique and delicious versions of the traditional corner deli sandwich, the Chopped Sandwich!  It is exactly how it sounds, you simply tell the good man behind the counter what kind of sandwich you would like, then all the ingredients are chopped up and put on your roll.  I ordered a Boars Head turkey and Swiss cheese sandwich with hot and sweet peppers, pickles, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and salt and pepper.

Here is a brief photo play-by-play of how to make the chopped sandwich at “Farmer in the Deli”.  First they slice the cold cuts fresh on the slicer before putting them on wax deli paper with the rest of the fillings.  Then they proceed to chop it up!

And finally the finished product:

This sandwich was a thing of beauty really.  It had the texture of a chicken salad sandwich with the tangy and savory flavor of all my specifically chosen ingredients mixed together.   I have not consulted my local physician for his prognosis yet, but I believe this method of sandwich preparation could only help with one’s digestion.  Also it gives one’s mandibles the rest they need at the end of the day.

Bonus:  Apparently this place is open 24/7…  These things are even tastier after a few tall and frosty cold ones.  PROOF.
