They’re pigs, and they are eating PEOPLE!!! (This was adorning my friend’s apartment in Harlem, I thought it was neat.)

Merry Xmas!

Hop Sausage is Beertasic

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

A sausage infused with what is normally the beer brewers spice- hops! This is from Hamilton’s Tavern in San Diego

There is an incredible beer selection here with abundant taps flowing forth delicious suds. Hats off to the staff keeping the taps clean and cold. Numerous IPAs were at the ready.

The food here is a huge draw. Especially the massive grilled cheese sandwiches made here on Texas toast, mine came with an array of pickled peppers on top, fantastic. I also recommend the pork wimpie sandwich which had cranberry apple coleslaw to top it off, another winner!!

Completos and Greetings from Chile

Saturday, November 19th, 2011

Hola! The Proofmeister is in Val-po Chile and the food here, especially the seafood has been amazing!

However before I can start talking fish I need to delve into the ultimate Chilean street food, the Completo. I saw this on No Reservations and it looked amazing.

The Completo or “complete” is a hot dog ensconced with pickled veggies, sauerkraut and then covered with a schmear of avocado and then finally a very liberal topping of mayonnaise.

This is one lunch not for the meek. Proof.

Lost in Translation

I’m debating between the shrimp suck or the crazy suck at El Meson on the 2nd floor of the Mercado Cardonal in Val-po Chile.

Argentine BBQ in Mendoza

Tuesday, November 15th, 2011

Hi all! The Proofmeister is still here, scoring steaks and sausages in the land of wine and beef.

In the Mercado Central of the very pleasant and picturesque Mendoza Argentina, we scored parilla which is an assortment of grilled meats brought to your table on your own personal grill.

This huge selection plus fries and a bottle of a robust local Malbec came out to 6 dollars per person US. Not bad!

The highlight, however HAD to be the blood sausage, I’ve never had better.

Empanadas in The Andes

Monday, November 14th, 2011

A trip to South America wouldn’t be complete without some Empanadas. Twelve of these bad boys cost about 3 bucks US. No one really knows the precise origins of the delectable puffed pockets but Italians claim it is the South American take on the calzone.

This was just from a local mom and pop shop next to some hot springs at the foot of the Andes Mountains. Yum.

Super Pancho! The Argentine Hot Dog

Sunday, November 13th, 2011

Hola Proofreaders! I present to you some glorious South American street food, the Super Pancho!

20111113-111239.jpg

This is the Argentine take on the Hot Dog. I picked this behemoth up at Denny’s Burguer in Mendoza. This place was great, everyone was thoroughly enjoying themselves staff and customers included! I got the Denny’s Super Pancho which is a 12 incher topped with salsa, chilies, onions, cheese, and ham! It paired nicely with the Andes beer they served here!

I believe hedonism is a theme here, as the wolf howling at the moon painting indicates, If only I could get this printed on a tee shirt!
